The Importance of Physiology in Exercise Science

Everyone’s anatomy and physiology is more or less the same. For example, we all have a nervous system, cardiac system, etc. However, some people may have anatomical anomalies that may affect the way that they can exercise.

In a study – entitled Motor-function and exercise capacity in children with major anatomical congenital anomalies: an evaluation at 5 years of age by a team of medical experts – it was found that children with anatomical anomalies such as hernias, defects with their small intestines and abdomens were not able to exercise as children without such anomalies were.

Thus, it is up to the personal trainer to conduct thorough physical assessments with all of their clients in order to find out if they suffer from any anatomical or physiological syndromes that may prevent them from performing certain exercises so as not to cause them any harm.
